CITY OF CLERMONT
MINUTES OF
REGULARfv1EETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE CITY HALL
TUESDAY, AUGUST 1st, 1944, 7:55 PQM.
The meeting was called to order by Tice-presldent F. H.
Higby, other Councilmen present being R. M. Castner, C. W.
Gaines, an4R. M. Stackhouse. Mayor H. C. Brow, Marshal C. E.
Sullins, City Attorney Irving F. Morse, and Ci~ Clerk R. F.
House were also present.

Mr. S. H. Bowman was present add presented the matter of an
old,blll or Mr. A. P. Gibson, asking that same action be taken on
it, so that settlement could be made on property Mrs. Gibson
1s selling. Mr. stackhouse made a motion that the city
hire some responsible person to exam1nre the records to determine
if possible if the City owes Mr. Gibson ~thing, and if so,
how mtch. The motion was seconded by Mr. Castner, and when
put to a vote, the motion carried.

The building Committee had inspected the property of
Mr. Kern, lot 10, block 28, and round the work be was doing
on the property did not comply with the application ror a
permit, so on motion of Castner, seconded by Stackhouse, the
Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Kern that the permit was
revoked;' and the shed on the back of the lot oondemned for
use as a residence.
Minutes of the meetings July 6th, 11th, and 21st were
read and approved.
Mr. Stackhouse reported that the Street Committee ha~
arranged to repair the streeet north of the ACL tracks between
Eighth Street and West Aye.
Mayor Brown reported 13 cases in Mayors Court, with fines
and costs collected ampunting to $126.00. He recommended
that a regular night policeman be employed while the Arrrr1' is
here, snd suggested Mr. Fussell at.a salary of $135.00 per
month. He suggested that the Water Committee see about getting
a leak detector, as he believed there~ was considerable loss
from this source. He stated that the survey ot State Road
No. 22 is progressing favorabl., and that as Clermont had been
asked to assume $250 of a $5,000 rund to promote this Highwa y,
the Council make a subscription to the fund.
Mr. Stackhouse made a motion that the City contribute
$75.0~ toward the fund to promote this road No. 22. The
motion was seGOnde4 by Mr. Castner, and when put to avote,
the motion carried.

City Attorney Morse suggested that a list of those
who had applied for homestead exemption, but are not entitled
to it~ be sent t~ County Commissioner Stokes for such action
as he sees fit.. Tjis was agreed to by the Council, and
said 1istto be made up by the City Attorney.
Mr. Castner made a motion that the street mower ,be fixed
as suggested by 1~. Cole. The motion was seconded by ~~.
Gaines, and when put to a vote; the motion carried.
On mption of Gaines, seconded by Castner, and carried
the following bills are approved, and ordered paid when
money is available. List appears on the sheet fOllowing.
There being no further business, the Council adjourned,
to meet at the call of the president.
