CITY OF CLERMONT
MI11UTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD
AT THE CITY HALL TmESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1943, 8 P.M.
The meeting was oalled to order by president Geo. M.
Nagel, other Counoilmen present being C. W. Gaines, F. H.
Higby, and F. B. Roe. Mayor H.C.Brown, Marshal C.E.Sullins,
Street Supt. H.M.Cole, and City Clerk R.F.House were also
present. City Attorney mrving F. Morse came in a few
minutes later.
Minutes of the meetings Sept. 7th and 14th were read
and approved.
Mr. Gaines reported for the Street Committee that the
street east from the Ioe Plant had been repaired with material
ready mixed, and the Committee wanted to wait and see the
results of traffio on it before us~ng any more. He rec-
comended getting a load or two of oold mixed asphalt for
other patohing.
Mr. Roe reported the Cemetery had been oleaned up, and
the Library lot oleaned. He stated that the trees needed
trimming, and palms needed fertilizer.
Mayor Brown reported four oases in Mayors Court, with
fines and oosts amounting to $85.50 assessed, whioh was .
oollected in full exoept one fine was partially worked out.
He oalled particular attention to the growth of hyaoinths
in Center Lake, and the weeds along the street, and asked
their removal.
Marshal Sullins reported 4 arrests, and fines and
forfeits amounting to $73.00 turned over to the City Clerk.
Water Supt. Cole reported that 4 oolored families in the
Linooln Park Area wanted water service. Mr. Roe made a motion
that the service be extended to them if possible. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when put to a vote, the motion
oarried. .
Fire Chi.f Aohord reported 1 fire oall with 4 firemen
attending in September. Also that the engine was oheoked
each week and found O.K.
City Attorney Morse reported that he had filed an
answer to the suit brought by Fr~sz for an injunotion to
prevent enforcement of Ordinanoe No. 62.
Mr. Gaines then offered an Ordinance entitled, "AN
ORDINANCE PROVIDING A TAX LEVY ON PROPERTY IN THE CITY OF
CIERMONT FOR THE YEAR 1943; PROVIDING A BUIGET OF EXPENSES
FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1943-1944 AND MAKING APPROPRIATIONS
THEREFOR.", whioh was read in full; and Mr. Gaines moved its
adoption. The motion was seoonded by Mr. Higby, and when'
put to a vote, the motion carried. Mr. Gatnes then moved that
the rules be waived, and the ordinance read the seoond time
by its title only. The motion WaS seconded by Mr. Higby,
and when put to a vote, oarriedo The oddinanoe was read the
second time by its title only, then Mr, Gaines made a motion
that the rules bB further waived, and the ordinance read the
third time and placed upon its passage. The "motion was
seconded by Mr. Higby, and oarried unanimously. Thereupon the
ordinanoe was read in full, and upon passage of same, the roll
was called, with the following result: AYES:Gaines, Higby,
Nagel, Roe; NOES-none; ABSENT-Castner. So the Ordinance
passed, title as stated, and was ordered reoorded in the ORDIWAN'
NANCE Book and numbered ORDINANCE No. 66. A oopy of the
ordinanwe in full follows the minutes of this meeting.
Mr. Gaines made a motion, whioh was seoonded by Mr. Roe,
and oarried, that the following bills be approved and paid

Mr. Gaines made a motion that Tax Assessor G.A.Nash
be paid $100000 for preparing the 1943 tax roll. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Roe, and when put to a vote, the
motion carriedo
There being no further business at 'this time, the Council
