AT THE CI'.ry HALLL TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 1943, 7;45 P.lvI.

The meeting was called to order by president Geo. M.
NagGl, othGr Councilman presGnt being R.J.T.CastnGr, F.H.Higby,
and F.B.Roe. C.'l.GainGs came in a few minutes later.
City Attor-ney Irving Morse, :Marshal C.E.Sullins, St. & VIater
Supt. R.M.Cole, and City Clerk R.F.House were also prosent.
M:inutes of tho moeting Hay 4th were read- and approved.
After some discussion of thG boathouse at the Lake
Highlands Hotel, Mr. Gaines mado a motion that a resolution
be sent to ~,Iayor Brown, stating that inasmuch as the Council
had voted at his request to take the boathouse from the Deans
and use the lumber to the City's advantage, he sheuld seo to
it that the place was cleaned up. The motion was seconded
by I':ir. Roe, and whe n put to a vote, the motion carried.
Mayor Brown's report was road, in 1Nhich he sta tad. that
105 dogs fia d been ineculated and licensed, and tho Police
Dept. would continue locating and disposing of dogs not
inoculated or licensed. He also stated that tho Bill vesting
title to the City in lands botweon the lakes and Highways
had passed tho House, and no doubt would be acted upon
fa vorably by the) Senate. He recoliIDlendod that. tl'e Oi ty
furnish telophone for thG Red Cross office in tho City Hall;
also that additional jail cells for both colored and white
prisoners be arranged for. He recommended that the Marshal's
car be put in good condition.
After some discussion it was decided to postpone action
on the phonc for the Red Cross until more information was
obtained.
Marshal Sullins roported 10 arrests for ~ay, Fines
and costs amounting to $109.00 collected, 1 prisoner
serving a 30-day sentence, 1 case dismissedG He found
97 hogs kept in the City Limits.
City Attorney Morsa roported that he was waiting until
the Legislaturo adjourned before proparing ordinances requested,
so he would know the provisions of thn laws passed this session.
Mr. Roo made a motion that the City pay 75% of tho cost
of an overhai.ll job and a new tire for tho Marshal's car. The
motion was secondod by Mr. Higby, and when put to a vote, tho
motion carried.
A petition frem property owners in Lincoln Park Annex
asked that Coeper Lane bo opened up between Juniata and
Desoto Streets, trees taken out of center of street and clay
put in soft spots.
Ers. Dull asked that Disston Avo betviTeen Lannehaha Ave ~_
and Almond S~be fixed.
Mr. Roe made a motion that tho Stroot Co~mittoo handle
these two matters. The motion waS seconded by Mr. Higby
and when put to a vote, tho motion carried.

l',ir. Roo made a motion that rIa ter servic'e be furnished
Mr. Kie until such service amounts to as much as the pipe
he is furnishing, at which time the pipe becomes the property
of the Cit y, and ho v/ill pay th(~ rogular servico shargos.
Tho r.1otion was seconded by I',Ir. Gill nes and vvhon put to a vote
the motion carried.
~r. Roo made a motion, seconded by Mr. Gaines and carried
that the rlatter of additional jail room be l'eft in the hands
of the Fire & Building COll1..mi ttoo.
After some dicussion of a recroation program, Mr. Roe
made a motion that a Recroation cOEnnitte be appointed. Tho
motion was secended by Mr. Castner, and when put to a vote,
tho motion carriGd. Pr'osident Nagel appoint0d C. ','}. Gednes,
Oakley Soaver, and Earl Gray on this Committee, and the
appointments were approved unanimously by tho Council.
