MINUTES OF THE REGULAR DEOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
HELD IN THE C1II'I'Y HALL TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th, 1942. 8:00 P.M.

The meeting aws called to order by president Geb. Nagel,
other Councilmen present "being R.M.Castner; G.J .Egan, C.W.
Gaines, and R. V. Miller. Mayor H.C.Brown, City Attorney'
Irving F. Morse and City Clerk R.F.House were also present.
Mr. Castner, chairman of the Street Committee, reported
that they had investigated the condition of Juniata Street
between Fifth Street and Lake Ave., and estimated that with
the co-operation and assistance of O~F.Fraser and County
equipment, it would cost about $400.00 to fix the Street and
build a flume to carry the water to the lake. Mr. Gaines
made a motion that the Street Committee have the street fixed.
The motion was seconded by Mr. M111er, and when put to a
vote, the motion carried.
On account of the noise, caused by the operation of the
U.S.Army equipment in the Auditorium above the Council room,
the Council'went to the City Attorney's office to continue
the meeting.
Mr. Egan introduced an ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE
REGULATING THE HOURS OF SALE OF INTOXICATING KIQUORS IN THE
CITY OF CLERMONT AND PROVIDING PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF",
Which was read in full. Mr. Egan moved that the Ordinance be
adopted, the motion was seconded by Mr. Gmnes, and when put
to a vote, the motion carried. Mr. E~an then moved that the
rules be waived and the Ordinance read the second time by its
title only. The motion was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when
put to a vote, the motion carried, and the Ordinance was read
by its' title only. Mr. Egan then moved that the rules be i'm--thA
waived, and that t:h Ordinance be read the third time and placed
upon its passage, which was seconded by Mr. Gaines and carried
unanimously. Thereupon the Ordinance was read in full and upon
passage of same, the roll' was called with the following result:
Ayes- Castner, Egan, Gaines; Noes- Miller, Nagel. So the
Ordinance passed, title as stated, and was ordered recorded in
the Ordinance Book and numbered Ordinance No. 57. A copy of
the Ordinance in full appears in this book, following the
minutes of this meeting.
On motion of Mr. M1ller, seconded by Mr. Gaines and
carried, the City Clerk was authorized to transfer the necessary
amount from the 3~ mill Fund to the General Fund to take care
of current bills.
Mayor Brown presented another application for the position
of Chief of Police. After some discussion, Mr. Castner made
a motion thatR. F. Anderson be appointed Marshal until Jan.l,
1943 at a salary of $125.00 per month and carf allowance of
$15.00 per month. The motion was seconded by Mr. Egan, and
when put to a vote, the motion carried. ' Mr. H.M.Cole is to
look after the work in the Street, Water, and Park Departments.
, Mr~ Gai iles made a' motion that the City accept the bid of
Falkner, Inc., Orlando, Fla. for $792.00, dated Sept. 1,1942,
for the complete installation'of a furnace in the City Hall~
The motion WaS seconded by Mr. Egan, and when put to a vote,
the motion carrie~.

Mr. Gaines made'a motion that the Bu~et for 1942-3'as
corrected be adopted, and the millage levied at 18 mills, 14
mills for Interest & Sinking Fund, and 4 mills for'Operating
Expenses. The motion was seconded by Mr. Castner, and when
put to a vote, the motion carried.
On motion of Mr. Gaines, seconded by'Mr~'Castner, the
meeting was adjourned until Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1942, 8 P.M.
