MINUTES OF ~1.:'HjL REGULAR M2E'rING OF THE CIT7 C(IUNCIL HELD AT
'l.'HE CITY HALL TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 1942, 8:15 P.M.
The meeting was ca~led to order by president H. R.
Harper, 'othor Councilmen present being R. V. Miller and
Geo. Nagel. Councilmen C. B. Ga~o~~,and G. J. Egan were
not in tl~e City. E9:Y01~ H. C. Bro'wn, City Attorney Irving
F. Morse, Marshal G.R. McCain, Stree~"& Water Supt. R. F.
Anderson, and City Clerk R . F. House were also present.

Idinutes of thr3 meetings of June 2nd and June 9th Wire
read and approved.
r.Iayor Brown read his report. He had received a lettnr
from Mayor Scott of Minneola, asking thatonly fire calls
authorized by Mayor Scott or E. H. Bozeman be answered in
Minneola, and that the Charge be reduced. The City Clerk
was instructed to write Mr. Scott that only thoso calls would
be answered, but that the charge would remain the same.
Mayor Brown reporte d giving permiss ion to tb.e U. S. Army for
use of the City Hall Auditoriura as central office for
certain operations in this territory; and this action was
approved by the Council. Mayor Bro".."'n recommended that an
Ordinance be enacted regarding inspection of all meats sold
in the City, and after considerable discussion, Atty Morse
agreed to draw up one"along the lines of those adopted
by other small cities. Mayor Brown suggested that Night
Wa~ch~an P.W.Bryant be gr~nted an increase in pay.
Mr. Mcbller made a motion that P. \'1. Bryant's pay as
Night Watchr.1an be increased to ~;~70.00 per month. The
motion was seconded by Mr. nagel, and ..".iThen put to a vote,
the motion carried.
Erashal McCain reported three arrests in July, with
fines and costs amormting to ~~36.00 collected and one
sentence for thirty days suspendedj All places selling
alcoholic drinks have agreed to close bU or before nlidnight.
Fire Chief Achord's report stated no fires in July,
and engine che cleed each week and found O.K.
City Attorney Morse reported that the Council would
meet Aug. 11, 8:00 P.M. to sit as equalization Boa rd to
equalize the tax roll. He also suggested that the'budget
be prepared and acted upon at tho September meeting.
~,.r. Mill01~ made a motion that t1'E:) City Clerk buy 500
tax roll sheets and binder to prepare the new tax roll.
Quotations from W. B. Drew Co, Jacksonville, and The
Record Press, St. Augustine were read.
Ordinances for the regulation of bicycle traffic,
and for establishing closing hours for saloons waDe ~oc~M1
again presented to the Council by the City Attorney, but
action on them was deferred to a later date.

A letter from the Travelers Insurance Co. stated that
an inspection of City properties covered by insurance
policy DS-74;).120 found conditions excellent with one
exception-a few rotten or broken boards on seats'and bac~s
of benches in the park, Hhich should be prepared.
Tn.u Clerk was instructed t'o have the benches repaired
by Mr. Allen.
A letter from C.B.VVhite was read, in which he asked
about bus service to his hotel in the Heights, and the Clerk
was instructed to write him that t~e license to operate bus
or taxi servicG was proliibitive, and that he would have to
provide his own service.
