03-03-1942 Regular Meeting CITY OF CLERMONT REGULAR MEETING OF 'THE cn.Y COUNCIL HELD AT THE CITY HALL TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 1942, 7:30 P.M. -.. .., On account of th: cold weather, aDd the furnace being out of order,in the City Hall, the CouncIl agreed to hold tpe meeting in the lobby of the Postal Colony Office; where the meeting was called to order by president H. R. Harper. Other Cpuncilmen present'were G. J. Egan, C.W.Gaines, H.V. Miller and Geo. M. Nagel. Mayor H.C.Brown, Ci~ Attorney Irving F. MOrse, Marshal G.H.McCain, Street and Water Supt. R.F.Anderson, and City Clerk R.F.House were also present] Minutes of the meeting of Feb 3rd were read and after slight correction on Mr. Egan's motion about salVaging waste paper, w~re approved. Minutes of the meeting Feb 21 were approved as read. ~here was only one response to the advertisement for bi ds fo r th e di spo sal of garbage. Mr. Miller made a mot ionD that the bid of Mr. J.W.Hinson be rejected. The motion was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when put to a vote, the motion carried. Mr. Nagel reported that the Junior Chamber of COlIllIB:roe were erecting a board forthe names of all the men from this vicinity who are in the armed servlcees of the nation; and asked that the City fill in neoessary dirt and run a water xx pipe so that the plot around the board oaald be grassed and shrubs planted. The Street and W'at er Supt. was directed to d,o this. Mr. Harp;.r reported that he had appointed a Committee to draft some plan to dispose of lots the City aquires by foreclosure of tax or paving liens. !('hose,on the Committee are S. H. Bowman, Ernest Denslow, Don,Smith, Mayor Brown had no written report, but told of a road meeting he attended in Miami, in wwhich the State Road Dept and Federal officialsseemed favorably impressed with the proposed cross-state mili ta ry road from Ind,ian River Ci ty to Brooksville: though this section. MSrshallG. H. McCain reported two arrests in February. One was sent enc ed to 30 days in jail and labor on the street. but while working, he escaped. He ahs since been called by the Draft Board for Military Service. The other persoh arrested posted ~lO.OO cash bond.for apJearance in Mayor's Court la ter. Fire Chief J.P.Achord reported one fire oall and fire engine checked each week and found O.K. Street and Water Supt. R.F .Anderson st ated be had filed Daily - reports of work done with the City Clerk. . ~ ., There was some discussion of moving the fire siren, but it was decided to investigate further before taking action. A RESOLUTION aut horizing Temporary clas ing and use of Palm Street. between Second and,Third Streets was offered QY Dr~ Egan, who move,d its adoption. The motion was sece onded by Mr. Miller, and when put to a vote, the motion carried. Mayor Brown reported that,s satisfactmry arrangement had been for a street outlet for Wm Dean. ' City Attorney Morse reported that a ten foot strip of land m~~-~m north, and south through the middle of block 93 had been ddeded to the City by w. H. Chandler for An alley and the City Clerk was dirE)cted to have same recorded. A letter regn,rd,ing assessment and taxes on some land in the east pirt of the Ci ty, owned by the Montverde SchOOl, was read, and turned over. t 0 th e Ci ty .Attorney for action. The motion was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when put to a vote, the mot ion carried. ~ 'U' Mr. Nag01 made a motion that the Insurance on the Library for ~l,OOO be rehewed for one year, and that the Insurance on,the City Hall be renewed for one year-$3,OOO on the building, 1,000 on the fire truck, :wooO on tl:e fire hose, and ~600 on th furniture & fixturea,in th building. Mr. Gaines made a motion that the City condemn and tear down the old band st and and platform on Pool's lot next to the Clermont Pharmacy. The motion was seconded by Mr. Egan and when put to a vote, the motion ca rried.
