CITY OF CLERMONT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THT!; CITY COUNCIL HELD
AT TI1E CITY HALL TUESDAY; July 1, 1941, 7:50 P.U.
The r.loeting w as called to order by president O.H.
Keene, other Councilmen present being C.W.Gaines, H.R.
Harper, and R. V. Miller. Mayor n.C.Brown, Street &
Water Supt. R.F.Anderson, and City Clerk R.F.House were also
present.

Minutes of the meeting June 3rd were read and ap~roved.
Report on the cost of installing a lake plug for fire
protection between the homes of F.S.Bliven and @eo. Muceneek
showed the cost would be about $100.00, and the Council
agreed to postpone installation until later.
A committee from the American Legion; Mr. Weaver, Mr.
Wright, and Er. Bozeman, asked for cancelation of City taxes
and Paving liens on two lots the Legion Post G.re getting, on
which to build a Legion Home. The Council agreed to take the
matter up .with the~City Attorney and Cind out what could be
done about it.
Wirter Supt. Anderson reported that he had examined S01T19
second hand water main that was for sale; and the condit~on
of the pipe was too poor to consider using in our system.
Hayor Brown reported that no definite action had been
taken by the 9fficials of the Colored Church on Fifth St.
in regard to'moving the Building to the Lincoln Park section.
1.Ir. Harper made a motion that the Mayor notify them that the
Church must be moved within thirty days or the place would
be locked up. The motion was seconded by Mr. Miller, and
when put to avote, the motion carried.

Mayor Brown read his report for the month in which he
asked that "City Limit" sienis be erected on all roads
leading into the CityJ He recommended a change in the Zoning
Ordinance as.Follows: II to add to the buildings and enter-
prizes now permitted in Zones R-l and R-2, cottage groceries,
dress-making, millinery, and ~loral shops, -and not to exceed
600 ft of floor space and to comply with present requirements
covering location on lot, building material and general
construction requirements, and to be operated by a proprietor
ovming and living on the same or adjoining lot". Mayor
Bro\Vll reco~~ended that the Yaaht Club be exempt from City
taxes inasmuch as it is operated by the Clermont Welfare
League entirely for Charitable purposes. He stated that
the Sun Chevrolet Co. had asked to build a covering for their
used cars over the parkway on the lots adjoining their sales-
room to the east, and recommended that a lease be given them
for 5 years at a nomi~nal fee.
Mr. Gat nes made a motion that the City Attorney draw up
a lease permitting the Chevrolet Co to use the parkway east of
their garage and erect a shed to cover their used cars in
accordance with a plan submitted~ The motion was secohded
by Mr. Harper, and when put to a vote, the motion carried:
Mr. Miller made a motion that ~le.City Attorney draw
an ordinance amending-the ,Zoning Ordinance as outlined by
Mayor Brown in his report. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Harper, and when put-to a vote, the motion carried~
The Street Dept was instructed to put up "City Limit"
signs on all roads leading into the City.
Mr. Martin, representing the Florida Public Service Co.
presented a renewal of the Electric light and Power contract
with the City; The Council referred it to the City Attorney
for comparison with the old contract which will expire in
September, and will take action on it later.
Hr. Gaines made a motion, which was seconded by Mr.Harper
and carried unanimously, that a resolution expressing the regr~L~
of the City Officials be sent the family of Geo. F. Westbrook,
and a copy spread on the minutes, ~nlich will bG found on

The report of the Fire Chief stated that there were no fires
reported during the montl1, and the Fire Engine was checked five
times and foun~ O.K.
The Report of the Marshal stated that there were no arrests,
1evor operated slot machines had been taken out of town, and minors
under 18 years of age had been stopped from working in places
where Xy~~ alcoholic drinks are hand1ed~
