03-04-1941 Regular Meeting CITY OF CLERMONT r':TNTJTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE CITY HALL TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 1941, 7:35 P.M. _.~ ... Tne meeting was called to order by President O. H. Keene, other Councilmen present being G.J.Egan, C.W.Gaines, H-R.Harper. Mayor H.C.Bro\vn, City Attorney Geo. F. W s tbrook, Marshal Ho-S. Cleaver, Street & Wa ter Supt. R. F. Ariderson,and City Clerk R.F.House were also present. Minutes'of the meetings Feb. 4th and 11th were read and approved. Mrs. Minnie E. Johnson presented a pet~tion to the President of the Council, signed by Mr. S.O.Ware and about 125 other citizens of Clermont, asking that the Zoning Ordinance be left as it was. The Petition was read by tne City Clerk, but no action taken by the Council. Mr. E. C. Pemberton asked the Council to reconsider the bids submitted to furnish gas and oil to the City for ~ the coming year, but was told that the bid of the Standard Ojl Co. had alieady been accepted, and no further action would be taken at this time. Mayor Brown read his report for February, inwhich he stated that there were six cases in Holice Court, with fines and costs amounting to $27.00 assessed, all of which has been paido He reported having correspondence with F.H.A. officials and members of Congress in regard to loans on Clermont pro~ rtYi and he beliuve~ misunderstand- ings had been. cleared up, and funds would be available to those who could comply with thetg~vernment regulations. he presented a petition from xx~~ X~ merchants on the seuth side of Montrose Street between Seventh and Eighth St.reets, asking for an alley between Montrose and DeSoto streets, for use in loading and unloading'trucks, to relieve the traffic congestion on Montrose Street. Sever other, - matters were suomitted for the consideration of the Council. -After considerable discussion of the parking problem on Montrose Street, and the difficulty and cost of putting an alley through the block between Montrose and DeSoto Streets, Mr. Harper made a motion that the Street Committee work out a plan fer parking on Montrose Street between Seventh and Eighth Streets, and put"it into effect long enough to test the merits or drawbacks. ~e motion was seconded by Mr. Egan, and when put to a vote, the motion carried. Mr. Harper made a motion that the property owners that have broken, r0ugh, and unsafe si~walks in front of their property on Montrose Street between Seventh and Eighth Streets be notified to put them in proper condition. The motion was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when put to a vote, the motion carried. ~ 'W' ~e matter of an error in the assessment of the property of J.L.George was discussed, and Mr. Egan made a motion that the valuation should be reduced to $2280.00. The motion . was seconded by Mr. Gaines, and when put to a vote, carried. M~rshal H.S.Cleaverfs Report was read. There were seven arrests, with fines and costs amounting to $27.00 assessed; all of which has been collected. One case in which the prisoner was sentenced to 20 days at hard labor, and refused to work, the prL1lsoner was removed to the County Jail to complete the balance of sentence. The report was accepted by the Council and ordered filed. Councilman Gaines stated that a lady had asked for the job of covering the cushions of the cbairs and seat in the Council room inorder to pay her water bill, but after a little discussion, 'it was dec&ded that this was not necessary at present~ CITY OF CLERMONT Minutes of Council meettng Mar 4, 1941, 7:35 P.M. A. report of the Water Supt. on a checkup of the Electric equipment at the water pump was read. The, checkup was made by a representative of the ,Orlando Armature Works, and showed that no repairs were needed at the present time, and that,the equi~nent showed just normal wear. Daily reports of the Street and water Supt. on work done and labor hired, was submitted to the Council for eamination. There was some discussion about a light truck for use in water work, and the Council agreed to try to work out a satisfactory solution. ~ .~ page 20 Mr. Simms asked for a ~~~~~~ pe rmit to erect an electric lighted sign fOD the American. Oil Co. between the sidewalk and curb line on Montrose Street in front of Don's Service Station; and was instructed by the Council to make regular application with detailed sketch showing exact location, so the Building Committee could look it over and take proper action. The matter of unpaid occupational licenses was discussed, and Mr. Egan made a motion that the licenses be collected in the next ten days, 'or the Mayor take appropriate action to enforae collection. The motion was seconded by Mr. Harper, and when put to a vote, the motion carried. Only normal amount of wear. Top section of shaft haS1,' taken most wear. Top bearing housing in' good condition. 2nd, shaft bearing worn eausong vibration. Rotor slightly out of round. This wear ia probably due to pump shaft being out slightly. Motor circuits' te sted out, circuit breakers' and relays plus (phas:e reversal) tuned up and repairs made on relays.
