CITY OF CLERMONT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT
THE CITY HALL THSDAY, JULY 2, 1940, 8:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by president O.R.Keene,
otrer Councilmen present being R.L.Lassiter, F.B. Roe, and
R.M.Stackhouse. Mayor H.C.Brown, Acting Marshall R.F.
Anderson, and City Clerk R.F.House were also present.
Minutes of the meetings June 4, 21st, and 24th were
read and approved.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anderson, and Mrs. Minnie E. Johnson,
who reside on Minneola Ave near Eleventh st., were present
and asked if a street light could be put in at the intersection
of Eleventh st. and Minneola Ave. Mr. Roe made a motion
that a street light be put in at that point. The motion
was seconded by Mr Stackhouse, and when put to a vote, the
motlon carrie d.
Mayor Brown read his report in which he made several
suggestions for cons&deration of the Council, and also a
letter from the Zoning Commission asking for action on some
m~tter~ of interest to the entire community.
Mr. Roe made a motion that the Street Commmttee consider
the recommendations of the Zoning Commission, and report
back to the Council for action. The Motion was secodded by
Mr. Lassiter, and when put tr' a vote, the motion carried.
Mr. Lassiter made a motion, which was secondeo by Mr.
Roe, and carried, that the City Attorney write a letter
to Marshal R.S.Cleaver extending to him the sympathy of the
City Officials, in his recent losa.
ff,r. Stackhouse made a motion, which was seconded by
~,"r. Roo; that R.F.Anderson be appointed Deputy Marshal with
hours and duties subject to the order of the Mayor, his pay
to ~emain tl- e same; and that he still superintend the streets,
water and parks, and that he be allowed sufficient gas for the
operation of his car when on duty as Deputy Marshal. When
put to a vote, the motion carried. This action was taken
in accordance with the recommendation of Mayor H.C.Brown.
Mr. Lassiter mad!: a motion that ~ all taxes
against lots 18 and 20, block 31, assessed to L.R.Mil1s
be cancelled on account of disability, and exemption is
allowed according to laws of the State of Florida. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Roe, and when put to a vote,
the motion carrieti. . .
Mr. Stackhouse made a motiou that the Marshal be
appointed Building Inspector. The motion was seconded by Mr.
Lassiter, and when put to a vote, the motion carried.
Mr. Roe made a motion, seconded by Mr. Lassi~r, which
carried, that the following bills be approved and paid
when money is available.
