01-02-1940 Organizational MeetingAft W CITY OF CLERMONT MINUTES OF THE REGULARLY ADJOURNED T&FETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD IN THE CITY HALL? TUESDAY, JANUARY 2, 19601 9:30 P . T1. The Meeting was called to order by President O.H.Keene, other Councilmen present being R.T.Lassiter, F.B.Roe and R.M. Stackhouse. Mayor -elect H.C.Brown was sworn into office by the City C le rk . Mayor Brown then administered the oath of office to Councilmen -elect O.H.Keene and F.B.Roe, and to Assessor - elect, W.M.Thomas . President O.H.Keene announced thAt nominations for president of the Council for the coming year were in order. Mir. Keene was nominated for piesident, there being no other nominations, Mr. Keene was elected unanimously. Mr. F.B.Roe was nominated for Vice president of the Council, and there being no other nominations, Mr. Rae was elected unanimously, mr. Roe rmdf; a motion that R.F.House be appointed City Clerk at the present salary, A125.00 per month. The motion zas seconded by Mr. Stackhouse, and when put to a vote, carriers Mr. Stackhouse made a motion, which was seconded by Mr. Lassiter, and carried, that Mr. Geo. T. Westbrook be appointed City Attorney at the same salary as at present, A25.00 per month Mr. Lassiter made a motion that Fr. F.S.Cleaver be appoi —j i, -r Marshal and Health Officer at the s^me salary, s' 125.00 per mnn+h The motion was seconded by Mr. Roe, and when put to a vote, the motion carried.. T'r. Lassiter made a motion, seconded by Mr. Roe, that Mr. R. F. Anderson be appointed superintendent of Streets and Water.#x�mxxatxx�is�x��#��x��xx$ at the same salary, $85.00 per month. When put to a vote, the motion carried. Fr. Stackhouse made a motion that Mr. Cleaver be allowed fifty Sallons of . gasoline per month from the City tank for his use in police work. The motion was seconded by Mr. Lassiter and when put to a vote, the motion carried. Mr. Roe made a motion, seconded by Mr. Lassiter, that the Citizens Bank of Clermont be named the depository for City funds. When put to avote, t'e motion carried. Tyr. Roe made a motion that surety bonds for City officials be obtained. from a reliable firm in the following amounts: City Clerk -t'5, 000.00; City Treasurer -A2,000-00; City Marshall, $2,000.00. The motion was seconded by Mr. Lassiter, and when put to a vote the motion carried. Mayor Brown made a special report on diseased trees in the parkways, and alalo the condition of the City dump ground. Mr. Stackhouse made a motion that the Street employes of the City treat 50 of the worst diseased trees with Mr. LaVeigne's remedy, under his direction, as a test of the value of the treatment. The motion was seconded by Mr. Lassiter, and when put to a vote, the motion carried. Mayor Brown stated that the balance of lots 7 & 8, Block M, containing about 8 acres, could be purchased, with all taxes paid $100.00. Mr Lassiter made a motion, seconded by Tar. Stackhouse, that the Mayor be given authority to purchase this property for the City at the figure named, to be used as a dumping ground. When put to a vote,the motion carried.
