CITY OF CLERMONT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, HELD AT
THE CITY HALL, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1939, 7:30 P.M.
The meeting was oa11ed to order by President O.H.Keene,
other counoi1men present being R.L.Lassiter, F.B.Roe and R.M.
Staokhouse. Mayor Brown, Marshall H.S.C1eaver, and City Atty
Geo. F. Westbrook were also present.

Minutes of the regular meeting Oot 3rd, and the Speoia1
meeting Oot 19th were read and approved.
Mr. Westbrook stated that the debt settlement was
progressing satisfaototlty.. Several oomp1aints have been
made in re~rd to Health and sanitary ~onditions, and Mr.'
Westbrook said that most of them oou1d be taken oare of under
the present o~dinanoes if properly enforoed by the City Health
Offioer. Af'ter somA disoussion, Mr. Roe made a motion that
H.S.C1eaver be appointed City Health Offioer. The motion was
seoonhd by Mr Staokhouse, and when put to a vote, the motion
oarried unanimously.
Mayor H.C.Brown read his report, bringing up several items
for oonsideration of the Counoi1.
Mr. Roe made a motion, seoonded by Mr. Staokhouse, and
oarried, that the Amerioan Legion and Auxi11iary be given
authority to olean up Cooper Park south of Center Lake, and
eq~ip it for a ohi1dren's play ground. Mr. Roe made a motion
that warning signals be p1aoed at dangerous ourves and street
ends at onoe. The motion was seoonded by Mr. Lassiter and
oarried.
Mr. Roe made a motion, whioh was seoonded by Mr. Lassiiber
and &arried, that the Counoi1 and Mayor meet with Vi.P.A. orf'1,,1A~.
of Orlando, and investi~te a projeot for rebui1ding'some of
paved streets ~hioh are badly worn.
It was moved by Mr. Roe, and seoonded by Mr. Lassiter
that the Zoning Committee be allowed aotua1 neoessaey expenses
up to $25.00. When put to a vote, the motion oa~ried.
Mr . Lassiter made a motion, seoonded by Mr. l:Jass iter that
the Mayor and City Clerk .ake the neoessary preparations for
the annual City e1eotion to be held Tuesday Deoember 12th.
The motion oarried. The followinf were named as offioia1s
for the e1eotion: Clerk, Tony LeB1ano; Inspeotors, H.Er1e
Hooks, A. E. Isaao, Mrs. Mollie \Vhitesoarver.
Mr. Roe stated that parts Rf three lots sold by the
Cemetery Assooiation prior to p~ohase of the Cemetery by the
City, had not been paid for, and the Association wishes to
sell these to t'he City. Mr. Stackhouse moved that the City
offer the Association $30.00 for these parts of lots, provided
th6.1 will acoept this amount within ten days. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Lassiter, and on being put to a vote, the
motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Brown said that the matter of tearing down the old
house on Lots 18-19-20, b100k 91, would probably be taken care
of in the next few weeks.

Mr. Roe made a motion that the City purchase Block 6
o~ the City of Clermont for Cemetery use, if the owners will
accept ~100.00 in full payment. The motton was seconded by
Mr. Staokhouse, and when put to a vote, t~e motion carried.
Marshall Cleaver's report was read, andhe told of some
of the benefits reoeived from the Police School being held in
Orlando.
It was moved by Mr. Lassiter, seconded by Mr. Roe, and
oarried, that ~Jfr. W. F. Williams be given the .job of auditing
the City books at the same price as in 1938, ~175.00.

Mr.S'tackhouse made a motion that Personal taxes prior to
1931, be canceled, as practically ail firms delinquent had gone
out of business. The motion was seconded by Mr. J,assiter
and carried unanimously.
