Minutes of the regular meeting of the City Council held at
the City Hall, Tuesday, October 3, 1939, 7:45 P.M.
The meetini was called to order by presiedent O.H.Keene,
other Councilmentpresent being A.M.Johnson, R.L.Lassiter, and
R. M. Stackhouse. Mayor Brown, Marshall K.S.Cleaver, and
Assessor K.D.C~se were also present.
Minutes of the regular meeting Sept~5, and the special
meeting Sept. 26, were read and approved.
Mayor Brown read a letter received from Mrs. Potter
Wolfe in"regard to"condemnat~on of the house located on lots
18-19-201 hlock 91, asking that she be given a few weeks extra
time to ook into ~he matter. The Council suggested that
Mayor Brown write her, giving the extension asked, and explain
the matter to her fully.
", Mr. Lassiter made a motion that BMKUFerguson be refunded
$5.00 of the amount paid on his license for Filling Station
and Garage. The " motion was seconded"by Mr. Stackhouse, and
when put to a vote, the motion carried.
Several letters were read, asking for reduction in the
valuations of property on the tax assessment roll, and several
items were called to the attention of the Council, where there
seemed to be inequalities, am aft~)1' studying each item care-"
fully, the Council adjusted them where they had seemed unfair.
Mr. Stackhouse made a motion that a resolution be passed,
accepting the tax roll as prepared by the Assessor,Mrs.Chase;
and corrected by the equalization BoardJ The motion was
seconded by'Mr. Lassiter, and when put to a vote, carried
unanimously.

Mayor Brown made his report, calling attention to many
items that the Council shpuld Bonsider.l.About eight acres
of land adjoing the City DUpp might be ~~ired by the City
at a very reasonable price. 2. ~ The Fede.al BapaRtment
of Justice has established a Police School in Orlando for the
next nine weeks, which might prove of considerable value Ie
the City if Marshall Cleaver could attend. 3. The WPA street
project-will probably be completed by the 10th of November.
4. The Fical Agent, Leedy Wheeler Co. of Orlando reports
almost enough bonds and coupons have been received to go ahead
with the debt settlement. 5. A letter was received from the
Florida Public Service Company, expressing regret at the
inconvenience caused by the electriv current being ofrafter
lightning storms recently, and that they had issued a credit
of $23.08 to the City on the Street" lighting bill to cover
the-"'four nights the lights were off.
Mr. Stakhouse made a' motion that Mr. Cleaver be allowed'
$1.00 per da~ for car expenses to attend the Police School
"in Orlando. The motion was seconded'by Mr. Johnson, and
when put to a vote, t~e motion carried.
Mayor Brown read a letter from the Rmgains Fruit Co.
regarding the use of the road between the Sanger Builders
Supply Co., and the O.K.lce Factor,y.
Mr., Johnson made a motion that the Street Committee
investigate the matter, with p"er to ta~e such action as .
they see fit. Motlon was seconded by Mr Lassiter and carried.
M~rshal Cleaver's report was read and ordered filed.
Mr. Johnson made a motion that an add~tional 10 gallons
of paint be bought for marking parking spaces. The motion
was se?onded by Mr. Lassiter, and when put to a vote, carried.
