MINUTES OF TFP~ REGUT,AR nS~~TING OF THS CITY COUNCI L IICLD
AT THT~~ CITY HALL, TU:2SDAY, SEPTEI'iIBER 6,1938, 8:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by president O.H.
Keene, other councilmen present being A.M. JOhnson, R.L.
Lassiter, and F.B.Roe. Mayor B.C.Brown and acting
Marshall, R.~.Anderson were also present.
tT1nutes of the meeting Aug. 2nd wnre read and
approved.
~:iayor Brown read his report, stating that there hact
been one arres t and fine of ~55.00 collected. He
designated the week beginning Sept. 12 as cleanup week
and asked that all property ovmers or care-takers place
all trasH along the curbs, where it could be picked up
by the City truck. He recommended repainting the parking
lines on the main streets and getting some necessary tools
for the water dRpartment. Reports from the office of the
Fiscal agent on the refunding plan show that good progress
is being made. l'1.P.A.project is expected to be under way
in two or three weeks.
Mr. Roe made a motion, seconded by ~~r. D'ohnson, that
the City Clerk get the necessary tools for repairing water
mains, at as reasonable price as possible. Motion carried.
l\~r Johnson made a motion, seconded by Er. Lassiter
and carried, that the City Clerk get paint for parking
lines and have t'hem marked by dAlinquent water users.
t:r Roe made a motion, seconded by f:ir. Las si ter, and
carried, that the Street Cormnittee see about putting up a
STOP sign on Eighth Street at Montrose Street.
rl'he r,rarshalls report was read. ~ffr. Lass iter made
a motion, seconded by Mr Johnson, that C.~ Lee be paid
~2.50 per night for special police work.
Mr. -~. C. Pemberton was, present and asked permission
to move the gasoline pumps in front of his lot 7, block
91, back several feet, and use sidewalk while filling cars.
~r. Roe made a motion, seconded by Hr. JOhnson, that such
permission be given. The motion carried.
Mr. Lassiter made a motion, seconded by Er.Johnson
that Stanley l~cCain be given permission to put a gasoline
pump for private use only, on the City property at the ~
north end of \rJest Ave. next to the Standard Oil 11;'holesale
Station. The motion carried.
r7r. Roe moved that the occupational license tax for
money lenders other than bankers be increased to $200.00

per year for non-residents, and ~lOO.OO per year for
res tdents. F1r Las si te r seconded the motion, which carried
when put to a vote.
Councilman Johnson moved that the City agree to
accept the title to certain real eS,ta te to be acquired by
the Clermont Country Club, and to lease the property back to If
the Club at an annual rental of $1.00; and if , at the
expira tion of one year fr' 'm date the property is deeded to
the City, the Club has not been successful in constructing
a golf course on tnA property, that the same \nJ.i1l be
re-conveyed to the 60untry Club and the lease cancelled;
and that the fJayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute
the nesessary papers in behalf of the City. The motion
was seconded by Councilman Lassiter, and upon being put to
a vote it was carried.

Roe made a motion that the chairs in the City
be loaned to residents of Clermont, provided
up a deposit of 50~ per chair, which will be

Mr. Lassit r made a motion, XI!ll!a!MEIi~lU~,
that R.F.Anderson be paid regular marshall's salary
from date E. Sanders was dismissed until a new Marshall
is installed, and be allowed 40 gallons of gas for use
during absence of Sanders on vacation, also flashlignt
batteries used. The motion was seconded by r.1r. Johnson
and on being put to a vote, the moti n carried.

The Applications for position of Marshall were
read, those applying were C.E.Sullins, C.E.Newman,
R.S.Cleaver, L.F.Mossman, J.L.Baker, C.C.Lee, R. E.
Bronson, Sam Tulk, and Claude Carroll. After some
discussion, the, Council postponed appointing a new
Marshall until t~e October meeting, pending invest-
igation of qualifications ann recommendations of th~
applicants.
TheIl' being no further business, t~e Council
adjourned to meet at the call of the President.
