A Bill from Dr. DeVane in the amount of $4.00
for treatment to Henry of a wound suffered while
fighting the Fire Sunday MorniDl April 22nd was
notpaid and the clerk was instrucedt to get more
information.

The Clerk then read a petition signed by 34 taxpayers
and citizens of Cler.mont and vicinity petitioning the
Council to retain C.C. Lee ~s marshall and pledging
$160.00 to be added to Mr. Lees salary between now
and Janaury First, 1934. Mr. T.C. Cork then asked
permission to speak. Mr. Perry then called attention
to rule twenty which prohibits people fram speaking
unless agreed to by a majority of the Council. Mr.
Miller then moved that Mr. Cork be allowed to speak.
Mr. House then .wm.m asked Mr. Miller to take the
chair. Mr. House then seconded Mr. Millers motion
and upon 1"011 call the vote was as follows;

Noes ; Short, Perry, Kern.
Mr. Cork then stated that he was representing the
Business Men's Association and made a talk to the
Council requesting that they retract their action of
April 18th, naming C.E. Sullins as Marshall and retain
C.C. Lee . Mr. Perry then ashed S.H. Bowman if he would
like to make a talk, and upon vote being taken Mr.
Bowman was given the unanimous consent of the council
to taltk. After Mr. Bowmans talk Mr. HOuse then took the
chair. Mr. Simms then asked to have the floor but was

voted down three to two. Mr. House then took the chair
and stated that C.E. Sullins was regularily appointed
marshall at the meeting of April 18th and that we should
proceed to swearing him in. Mayor Winston then took the
floor and stated that he believed than Mr. Lees resignation
was conditional and expressed himself as believing that
Mr. Lee should be continued as Marshall. Mayor Winston
than'vacated the chair as Mayor and Mr. House took the chair
and swore in Mr. Sullens as U~rshall. The swearing in was
objected to by ~~. Cork representing the business men.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
