Petition fl"om pl"OpeI'ty owneI'S on Montrose and 8th street whereupon

I(
Clermont, Florida, June 12, 1925.
To The Hon. Mayor & City Council:
Gentlemen: We the undersigned property owners and business men of the
city, respecttfully petition your honorable body to cause to have
removed all public sel~ice poles of every descI'iption on the, following
business streets of the City.
On Montrose st. from 7th to West Ave., and on 8t~ st. from Center Lake
'I
to Uake Minneola. Signed by thirty-seven property owners and business
men on said streets.
Pres. called for discussion and asked Mr. Coit of The Florida Public
Co. to give the attitude of his company towards this change. In reply
, ,
Mr. Coit assured the Counc:il that Fla. Pub. Sel"v. Co. ~ anxioul9 to
co-opeI'ate with the City in every possible way to make their sOl~ice
more attractive but that the cost of installing and maintaining an
under'gl"ound system even on the two streets mentioned in petition would
be out of the question at the rates we pay for service. He stated that
he would be glad to serve the pl"operties on these stre~ts fl"om ',the r'ear
of the buildings but this would necessitate rewiring the houses in most
cases, the cost of which would have to be paid by property owner, and the
right-of-way procured for the cumpany by the Council . Arter discussion
upon a motion duly made and seconded the Pres was authorized to appoint
-~
..,
a committee to ascertain from the property owners if a I'iRht-of way can
be obtained for the proposed change. Committee appointed:c.O.Roe,B.W.
Wiit and H.L.House from the City. Mr. MOoty of the Fla. .Pub Serv Co.
Mr.' Coit further said that he would confer with the Mgr. of Telephone Co.
to see if they could not use the same polls in t~D sel~ice on Montrose
^
and 8th st. Petition was laid on the table until report of Com. can be
given.
Mr. VI.H. Crozier asked an explanation of the change the Engineer had
made on ehestnutstreet location, and since the clerk had received a
letter' 1"1"'om the County Surveyor checking up on our City SU1""'reyol'" H. C.
Brown requested that same l)e read. The following ~xcel"'ptiJ~tal"e ta.ken

Dea.r Sir:-
I had intended, to send in my report in re~ard to the re-trac-
of~ the N. line of Section 25, which is the center line of chestnut
ing
Stoalso, before this -but didn't -sp I am doing it now.
We found a cement post, which,I understand, was put there
by Mr. Gibson,14.1ft.N.,and 1.4ft.E.of the true section corner, asit
was found in place a.t least 10 01'" 12 yea1"'s ago, before anything had
been moved or disturbed. That post was there when the wprk for 1~he
T - ,--

Highland Co.was begun,I think it was in 1911 Or 1912. At that time the
t~~t section Corner,at N.~.Corner of the Herring Hooks Estate,wHs in
place, but is gone now since they put the new road through, So I am
recognizing the lig:.1twood COl"nel" post, and not the cement post ~lS lj~L-,c
the true cornel'" post. From this li~twood post the line v'as ranged
throu&~ to th~ point front which the marble post,at the N.~.Section Cor.
had been lately r'emoved. The bearings and distances \'/ere taken from the
lightwood post at N.E.Cor.of Sec.25,to 2 pines,in each of which spike~
\
nails were driven as points from which measurements were taken and to
one stake on section line produced eastward.
As we went westward spike nails were driven in the asphalt
surfacing of the roadway, and offset distances were taken from these
nails to the face of the cUl"'bing at each point. Ce also sot,and vrit-
nessed a stake 01'" hub, just west of 7th St. and S.of 'Mr. i"fa.it's dwell:i .
also one in 8th Ave.at the prorated 40 cornor. Finally we drove hub

section line at distances,on e~ch side,of 100 ft.,and 150 ft.respecti7
ly. Those hubs will mr:l.ko it possible to l'oplace the marble post where
it belongs. I would sUegest ,and urge th~t the pavin~ contractorsbe
required to to l"eplace the marble poat that it will be centered from
these hubs, and so plf-lced that the top of it sh~.ll he flush with the
finished l"O~ld sUl"face. I thimk they owe the town that much for theil'
carelessness in allm'ling it :bo be l"lemoved by the I':':l'ading crew.

Fl"om the ::f.~;. Cor. of Sec. 25" I pl"'oduced the section line

~Tr. Crozier stated that they owned a block on Chestnut St. and r.~at
they did nlbt p1"opose to give nine feet off of their lots for a street
as he understood the Engineer was doing on the lots between 7th & 8th
street'. After discussion upon motion duly made and seconded the Pres.
was authoDized to instl'uct the C1 ty Engineer to hold up the grad:i.ng of
Chestnut st. between 7th & 8th st. until all the property owners on
the disputed boundry line of Chesnut st. can come to some mutual
agreement. I1lotion car1"ied.
Mr. H.C. Brown read the report of M.S.Hildebrant on insnection of
sidewalks put down by A.O.Todd, In the six inspections two measur-
ed Ii in.,3-2in. and 1-3in. of cement.A motion was made that the
Clerk give the commitee a complete list of all the sidewalks put
down and that the inspection be continued and another report be
given before the paying ~~ full to contractor. 2nd & Carried.
