RESOLUTION
No. 1001
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, ELIMINATING PUMPING OF
CENTER LAKE INTO LAKE WINONA AND RELINQ-
UISHING THE EMERGENCY PERMIT ISSUED BY ST.
JOHNS RIVER WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the Clermont Chain of Lakes has the designation of "Outstanding Florida
Waters", and
• WHEREAS, the City of Clermont recognizes the importance and need to protect the
quality and beauty of the Chain of Lakes, and
WHEREAS, the City of Clermont has in recent years adopted and implemented
programs to protect the Clermont Chain of Lakes including significant capital expenditures
eliminating direct runoff into the Chain of Lakes, and
WHEREAS, Lake Winona is part of Clermont's Chain of Lakes and the St. Johns
River Water Management District has approved the City's use of the recently constructed
Central Business District storm water retention area for the acceptance of Center Lake
overflow water,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City of Clermont will not divert Center
Lake flood waters into Lake Winona; will remove as much of the pipe as practical and pump
the remainder with concrete; that the City will investigate other alternatives of flood relief for
Center Lake, and that the City Council will encourage future Councils to protect and enhance
our Chain of Lakes by upholding this Resolution in the future, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in order to provide additional assurance to the
Citizens of Clermont, the City Council hereby with the adoption of this Resolution
relinquishes to the St. Johns River Water Management District the emergency permit issued
for the pumping of water from Center Lake into Lake Winona.
