Lake Community Action Agency, Inc. (2)WIiEREAS, it has been twenty-nine years since this nation declared
unconditional. war qn poverty through the enactment of the Economic Opportunity
Act, signed intq law on Augpst 20, 1964, and
WHEREAS, -the purpose of this i,~gislation was to eliminate the paradox of
poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation; and
WI~REAS, the Community Action Agencies have continued to lead the
struggle against poverty for 29 years, helping poor pCOple overcome hunger,
inadequate housing, illiteracy, unemployment, discrimination, powerlessness,
exploitation, and lack of access to such remedial and vital services as health care and
education; and
WHEREAS, .the Community Action Agencies have made an invaluable
contribution to our nation, through the development of innovative and cost-effective
programs which have helped m, illions of poor Americans find their way out of
poverty; and
WHEREAS, this nation must continue to wage a war on poverty in order to
uphold its commitment to the least fortunate among us, including America's children,
elderly, working poor, and other disadvantaged groups; and
NOW, TIiEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Clermont
recognizes Lake Community Action Agency, Inc. for their continuing war on poverty
and the leadership of Community Action Agencies in advancing this struggle.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
