Mayor's Proclamation
Odum -Dean Family Reunion
WHEREAS, Willie Joe Odum who was born in 1867 and at the age of thirty-
two came to the City of Clermont before the turn of the century; and
VVf~REAS, Amy Brown King was brought by her grandparents at the age of
13 to Clermont in 1902, and
WHEREAS, Willie Joe Odum and Amy Brown King were married on July 11,
1905 in Clermont; and
WHEREAS, this marriage was blessed with seven daughters and five sons:
Roberta, Ida, Willie H., Taft, Stuart, Bessie, Mattie, Reatha, Catherine, John, Taisy,
and Charles, who received from their parents the kind of happy home life and careful
training that develops good citizens and worthy adults; and
WHEREAS, three of the Odum daughters, Roberta, Ida, and Reatha, married
three of the sons of William W. Dean who came to Clermont in 1925, William
Arthur, and Henry; and
WI~REAS, we are gathered here to recognize the six generations of these
families who are present this evening; and
WHEREAS, their accomplishments as descendants of the founding black
families of the City of Clermont will long be remembered in the matters of church and
civic responsibilities and dedication to the best interests of the community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I Robert A. Pool, by virtue of the authority vested in
me as Mayor, and on behalf of the entire City Council and all of the citizens of
Clermont, do hereby extend to those gathered here this expression of our sincere
congratulations on this happy occasion, and further
BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this Proclamation shall be delivered to those
present with our best wishes for many years of health and happiness together in the
years ahead.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
