PROCLAMATION
MAYORAL PROCLAMATION
•
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout is
a lighthearted effort to encourage smokers to give up their habit
for twenty-four hours on Thursday, November 21, 1991; and
WHEREAS, for fourteen consecutive years, millions of smokers,
including may in the City of Clermont, have participated in the
event; and
WHEREAS, the health benefits of not smoking are substantiated and
well known; and
WHEREAS, there are additional civic benefits, such as a reduction
in the risks of accidental fires and illnesses related to
secondhand smoke;
NOW, THEREFORE, I Robert A. Pool, Mayor of the City of Clermont, by
virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim Thursday,
November 21, 1991, as
GREAT AMERICAN 3MOREOUT DAY
in the City of Clermont, and in so doing, urge all smokers and
smokeless tobacco users in the community to demonstrate to
themselves and their friends that they can quit if they wish by
joining the American Cancer Society's 15th Annual Great American
Smokeout.
