Joe Janusiak Day-January 4, 2007
Proclamation
WHEREAS, Joseph Janusiak, born in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 4, 1924, has been a citizen of Clermont for the last
26 years; and
WHEREAS, at 56, an age in life when many would be slowing down and looking forward to retirement, Joseph Janusiak-known
to many simply as "Joe"-chose to adopt the Clermont community as his own and to give of his time in making it a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, has served on many committees for the City of Clermont over the years, including the Planning & Zoning
Commission, Code Enforcement Board, Lincoln Park Task Force; and as chairman of the Beautification Committee; and
WHEREAS, for many years, served as caretaker and coordinator of Jenkins Auditorium, setting up and attending each City
Council meeting; and
WHEREAS, as a true friend to the City employees, gathered great door prizes from the local business community for the City
employee picnic each year; and
WHEREAS, has worked tirelessly through the years as a school crossing guard at Clermont Elementary; and
WHEREAS, has been commander of the VFW Post 5277, having served his country honorably in World War II with the Army in
the South Pacific; and
WHEREAS, has served several terms as president of the Clermont-Minneola Lions Club and helped start the Groveland-Mascotte
Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, has received the highest honor in Lionism, the Melvin Jones Fellowship, having served at the zone, district and state
levels; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Lions, has given vision tests to thousands of children over the years; and
• WHEREAS, has ushered at Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church for many years and has served on many church committees; and
WHEREAS, has served on the South Lake YMCA board, the Lake County Criminal Justice Committee and has provided
assistance to many local organizations including the South Lake Chamber of Commerce, South Lake County Community Foundation,
Cooper Memorial Library, South Lake Animal League and the South Lake High School Athletic Boosters; and
WHEREAS, was the South Lake Chamber of Commerce's recipient of the Gem of the Hills award in 1995 and was the Chamber's
Citizen of the Year in 1999; and
WHEREAS, despite suffering serious medical problems this year which required 15 weeks of hospitalization and nursing care, Joe,
at age 82, has actively resumed many of his former duties including school crossing guard and serving on the City's Code Enforcement
Board; and
WHEREAS, by his faithful service, has truly exemplified what it means to be a good citizen and community volunteer;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Harold S. Turville, Jr., Mayor of the City of Clermont, Florida, hereby proclaim that the occasion of his
83"' birthday, January 4, 2007, be known as JOE JANUSlAK DAY in Clermont.
