RE: National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Week
• Dear Mayor Pool:
National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Week begins on
Mother's Day, May 11th. Osteoporosis is a bone-thinning disease
which is associated with more than one million fractures per year
thereby creating a devastating impact on a person's independence
and quality of life in addition to absorbing over $10,000,000 in
health care costs for long-term treatment and rehabilitation.
The Osteoporosis Screening Center for South Lake is making a
concerted effort to make the public aware of what can be done to
prevent this disease. We plan to hold a free Osteoporosis Fair
the morning of Saturday, May 16th, in Jenkins Auditorium.
To kick off the National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention
Week, we would like to request the City of Clermont to officially
proclaim this week in order to bring it to the public's
attention.
Please let us know if you are able to proclaim the week of May
11th. If you have need of further informatior_, please contact
Karen Turville at my office. Thank you in advance for any
assistance you can give us.
Si care y,~,
