WHEREAS, the love of one's neighbor is a highly recognized value in most societies of
men and women, especially those with a Christian influence and thus within the City of
Clermont, and
WHEREAS, the love of one's neighbor that is valued is expressed in more than words
but rather in deeds of mercy and kindness that attend and assist one's neighbor at his or her
point of need, and one's neighbor includes the neediest of our community, and
WHEREAS, individuals from our community, largely from our church congregations,
along with the assistance of the South Lake Ministerial Fellowship, have come together over the
past 20 years to form what is today the Clermont Neighborhood Center located within our
City, and the Center is a faith-based group of individuals bound together by a commitment to
assist the neediest of our neighbors, and
WHEREAS, the Clermont Neighborhood Center provides a point of collection and
distribution of food, clothing, financial, and other assistance administered by the Center's all-
volunteer staff, and the volunteer staff contribute on average over 400 hours of volunteer service
per month to this task, representing over 1,230 individuals per month within our community
area,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Pool Mayor of the City of Clermont, Florida hereby
proclaim Tuesday, May 12, 1998 a day of thanksgiving to God and to the many volunteers of
The Clermont Neighborhood Center
in appreciation of those who over the years have given of their time, talents, and energy in
discharging our duty before God, and our privilege by His strengthening of loving our neighbors
and who have thereby helped us, the citizens of Clermont, propagate and perpetuate this value
by assisting those in need within our community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City
of Clermont to be affixed at Clermont this 12th day of May, 1998.
