WHEREAS, ETHEL JONES will be honored by friends and relatives on
Saturday, June 29 at a Celebration of Life in honor of her 100th birthday on June 27,
1996; and
WHEREAS, she was born on June 27, 1896 and has been a resident of this
community since 1929; became the wife of John "Doc" on August 31, 1929 and
raised three children, resulting in 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 28
great-great grandchildren, and
WHEREAS, in addition to her duties as support-mate and mother, she has
been active in church responsibilities, and has the honor of being the oldest member of
the New Jacob Chapel Baptist Church, and
WHEREAS, during a long and productive lifetime, she has demonstrated in
countless ways her dedication to the welfare of others by being a Deaconess and a
member of the Helping Hand Committee in the New Jacob Chapel Baptist Church and
often visited the sick and infirm. She has earned the respect and affection of people
from all walks of life and all ages with her kind and enduring love and patience; and

WI~REAS, she has lived during the most eventful century of this world's
history, having traveled by mule and wagon, and later by Model-T Ford. In her quiet
way Ethel has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around her
during these turbulent years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the virtue of the authority
vested in me as Mayor of the City of Clermont, I do hereby deem it an honor and
pleasure to extend this Certificate of Recognition to ETHEL JONES on the occasion
of her 100th birthday, with sincere congratulations and best wishes for many more
happy, productive years in the future.
