R-92-748 CITY OF CLERMONT RESOLUTION NO. 748 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE PROPOSED RATE INCREASE BEING REQUESTED BY UNITED TELEPHONE COMPANY OF FLORIDA (UNITED) BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION DOCKET NO. 910980-TL. NHBR~AS, United Telephone Company of Florida has filed a request before the Public Service Commission for a general increase in rates; and NHBRBA~, on December 15, 1991 the City of Clermont's local calling scope was increased, by approval of the residents, to include Orlando, Reedy Creek, Lake Buena Vista, Windermere, and Winter Garden Exchanges and at that time the basic service rate for a residential user increased from $7.95 to $11.81 and for a business from $18.65 to $27.72; and NHBREA~, the proposed fee to take effect July 1, 1992, would increase the rate for residential from $11.81 to $17.40 and for a business from $27.72 to $40.80; and WHERBA~, the proposed rate increase reflects a 119% rate increase from early December of 1991 and causes the Clermont monthly rates for basic exchange service to be the highest of any municipality served by United Telephone Company of Florida, including those who enjoy extended area service (EAS); and WHERBA~, the citizens of Clermont, many who live on fixed incomes, have expressed their concerns over the proposed increase to the City Council of the City of Clermont; NOW, THEREFORE, BB IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Clermont, hereby states its opposition to the rate increase proposed byUnited Telephone Company of Florida as being excessive and unjustified; and BB IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Clermont requests United Telephone Company to re-evaluate the proposed rate increase for this calling area in light of the December rate increase already in effect for the extended service area.
