CITY OF CLERMONT
RESOLUTION
No. 721
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT,
LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, CONDEMNING RACIAL HATE CRIMES, AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, several racial hate crimes have recently occurred in
Lake County; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Clermont abhors such
crimes and condemns them in the strongest possible terms; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Clermont strongly
feels that such racial hate crimes have no place in Lake County or
anywhere else;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Clermont, Lake County, Florida, that:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Clermont condemns
in the strongest possible terms those persons who commit racial
hate crimes and calls upon our state and local law enforcement
officials to vigorously enforce the hate crime statutes codified
in Chapter 775, Florida Statutes (1989), Definitions; General
Penalties; Registration of Criminals, Section 775.085, and Chapter
877, Florida Statutes, Miscellaneous Crimes, Section 877.19.
SECTION 2. A copy of this Resolution shall be sent to the
Lake County municipalities and the Lake County League of Cities,
and each is requested to adopt similar positions and resolutions.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
adoption.
