R-2012-30 CITY OF CLERMONT RESOLUTION NO. 2012-30 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING ITS DESIRE THAT LESS DOGS AND CATS BE EUTHANIZED AT THE LAKE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER; ENCOURAGING LAKE COUNTY TO EXPLORE NEW MEASURES THAT MAY FACILITATE THE SPAYING AND/OR NEUTERING OF DOGS AND CATS WITHIN LAKE COUNTY; ENCOURAGING LAKE COUNTY TO CONSIDER IMPLEMENTING MEASURES TO INCREASE THE RATE AT WHICH ANIMALS ARE ADOPTED FROM THE LAKE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, cats and dogs provide companionship to and share the homes of thousands of individuals in Lake County, Florida; and WHEREAS, the problem of pet overpopulation costs the taxpayers of Lake County, Florida and the City of Clermont annually through animal control and sheltering programs aimed at coping with unwanted and homeless cats and dogs; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to encourage Lake County to explore new programs and measures that would serve to decrease the rate at which animals are euthanized and increase the rate at which animals are adopted at the Lake County Animal Shelter; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Clermont accordingly passes this Resolution 2012-30 to do so. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Clermont, Lake County, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council hereby encourages Lake County to explore new measures and programs that would serve to encourage the adoption of animals through the Lake County Animal Shelter, which may include reduced adoption fees. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby encourages Lake County to implement incentives and programs for the sterilization of animals before they have the opportunity to procreate and add to the number of surplus pets that enter the Lake County Animal Shelter which may include, but are not limited to, low-cost and/or free spay and neuter programs and public outreach efforts to educate the public regarding the problem of pet overpopulation. 1 CITY OF CLERMONT RESOLUTION NO. 2010-13 SECTION 3.
