World Aids Day City of Clermont Proclamation 'Whereas, AIDS and HIV have a global impact, with an estimated thirty-three million people living with AIDS or HIV infection and twenty-five million who have died worldwide; and 'Whereas, the global epidemic of HIV infection and AIDS requires a worldwide and local effort to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS; and 'Whereas, the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has designated an independent organization, World AIDS Campaign, to oversee and unite such global efforts on December first of each year; and 'Whereas, World AIDS Day 2013 provides an opportunity to highlight continued efforts in the delivery of HIV prevention and screening programs, services, and care; and 'Whereas, in recognition that the fight against HIV and AIDS will only be won by scientific research and effective prevention, people are encouraged to educate themselves about the risks of HIV and demonstrate compassion to those infected by HIV and AIDS; and 'Whereas, recognizing that continued commitments to combat HIV and AIDS are needed from all sectors of society, including families, communities, organizations, governments, and policy makers; the Florida Department of Health in Lake County will host their 4th Annual World AIDS Day celebration on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Clermont Waterfront Park; Now, Therefore, I, Harold S. Turville, Jr., Mayor of the City of Clermont, Florida, do hereby proclaim December 1, 2013 as World-AIDS Day in the City of Clermont and encourage the citizens of this great City to educate themselves about the risks of HIV and demonstrate compassion to those infected by HIV and AIDS.
