RESOLUTION NO. 2014-33
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE STATE
ROAD CO-DESIGNATION OF STATE ROAD 50 BETWEEN U.S.
HIGHWAY 27/STATE ROAD 25 AND HANCOCK ROAD AS
"SPECIALIST ALEXANDER MILLER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, during the 2014 regular session, the Florida Legislature passed Chapter
2014-228, Laws of Florida (SB 820), which among other codesignations, codesignated State
Road 50 between US 27/S.R. 25 and Hancock Road "Specialist Alexander Miller Memorial
Highway"; and
WHEREAS, Army Specialist Alexander Miller was a Clermont resident born on
December 30, 1987. He attended East Ridge High School. He died at the age of 21 on July 31,
2009, in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his
unit with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion,
32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry),
Fort Drum. New York; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Alexander Miller was well respected by his peers, teachers and
community; and loved eternally by his close friends and family; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Alexander Miller gave his young life in the service of his country
and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, for all the above mentioned reasons the Florida Legislature, designated a
portion of State Road 50 as "Specialist Alexander Miller Memorial Highway"; and
WHEREAS, Section 334.071, Florida Statutes,provides that the installation of state road
designation signs shall be contingent on the applicable city council passing a resolution in
support of the particular honorary road designation; and
WHEREAS, State Road 50 between US 27/S.R. 25 and Hancock Road is within the
corporate limits of the City of Clermont; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Clermont is honored and proud to pass a
resolution in support of the designation of this road as "Specialist Alexander Miller Memorial
Highway".
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Clermont,
Lake County, Florida, as follows:

Section 1.
The City Council does hereby approve the state road co-designation of State Road 50
between U.S. Highway 27/State Road 25 and Hancock Road as "Specialist Alexander
Miller Memorial Highway."
Section 2.
The City Council does further direct the City Clerk to send certified copies of this
Resolution to the Florida Department of Transportation, Traffic Signals and Signs
Division of the Florida Department of Transportation and Representative Larry Metz.
Section 3.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
