Proclamation
Whereas, Fred Sommer's realized Clermont's hills, mild winters, and abundant
lakes provided a perfect location for triathlon competitions; and
Whereas, Mr. Sommer's organized his first race in Clermont in 1984; and
Whereas, he later founded Central Florida Triathletes which is now the
management company named Sommer Sports; and
Whereas, Sommer Sports began offering an ultra-distance triathlon called The
Great Floridian Triathlon; and
Whereas, the Great Floridian Triathlon turns 25 years old during the Great
Floridian Endurance Festival to be held at Clermont's Waterfront Park October 22
through October 24;
Now, Therefore, I, Gail L. Ash, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of
Florida, do hereby extend appreciation to Fred Sommer on his accomplishments
and contributions to the City of Clermont on the 25th anniversary of the Great
Floridian Triathlon.
In Witness Whereof, I, Gail L. Ash, Mayor of the City of Clermont, set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Clermont to be affixed this 13th day
