On Street Bike Paths City of Clermont TrocCamation Whereas, the City of Clermont supports bicycles and encourages people to ride their bicycles as a transportation alternative, for recreation, and to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise; and Whereas, the City of Clermont promotes bicycling in creative ways which include trail riding, off-street and on-street bicycling; and Whereas, bicycle and pedestrian safety and infrastructure continue to be a top priority for the Clermont City Council, and supports additional and expedited multimodal improvements which will increase bicycling and safety in our City; and Whereas, the City of Clermont, Lake County and the State of Florida have over 217 miles of roads functioning as local, collector and arterial roads within the City limits; and Whereas, the City of Clermont supports the addition of on-street bicycle lanes of at least five to seven feet be added to all new, expanded or improved arterial and collector streets within the City limits and throughout Lake County; and Whereas, the City of Clermont supports local businesses and recognizes the enormous economic impact that bicycling has on the City and Lake; Now, Therefore, I, Gail L. Ash, Mayor of the City of Clermont, Florida, as well as the City Council, do hereby support that on-street bicycle facilities of at least five to seven feet be provided within the City limits, and urge Lake County and municipalities within Lake County to support improvements to the streets to provide on-street bicycle transportation in accordance with the Complete Streets Program by the Florida Department of Transportation.
