RESOLUTION NO. 2016-27

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, RESTATING THE
CREATION OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT FIRE DEPARTMENT,
A LOCAL GOVERNMENT PUBLIC SAFETY ENTITY
ORGANIZED FOR THE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION
FROM FIRES AND DISASTERS, NATURAL OR MAN-MADE;
RATIFYING ALL PAST ACTIONS OF SAID FIRE DEPARTMENT
SINCE ITS CREATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Clermont requires compliance by the fire protection service
with local, state, and federal standards, rules, regulations, and laws; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clermont intends to expand and improve the fire protection
services to better ensure the safety and protection of residents and non-residents alike, to include
fire prevention, public safety education, inspections, and enforcement of state minimum fire
standards; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clermont would like to ensure the health and safety of the
members of the fire protection service through property application and documentation of
training, suitable appropriation and maintenance of resources, and establishing a chain of
command for accountability of and for personnel;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Clermont,
Lake County, Florida, as follows:
1. The first Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1923.
2. On January 5, 1932, the City Council enacted a revised General Ordinance
establishing a Fire Department known as "Clermont Fireman's Company,
establishing command, salary, and other purposes.
3. The official identification badge for the Clermont Volunteer Fire Department was
adopted by Resolution on July 14, 1992.
4. On March 23, 1999, the City Council approved a budget amendment to move forward
with a full-time Fire Chief, three firefighters, and one fire fighter/inspector.

5. The City Council does hereby further resolve that all past actions taken in reasonable
furtherance of any and all lost resolutions, records, or documents are hereby ratified.
6. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
