CITY OF CLERMONT CODE ORDINANCE NO. 257 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AMENDING ORDINANCE 195, AS AMENDED AND INCORPORATED IN CHAPTER 16 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, FLORIDA, PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT HEREBY ORDAINS THAT CHAPTER 16, ARTICLE III, IS HEREBY AMENDED AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 16-39. Firemen's retirement - Insurance premiums tax shall be amended to read as follows: There is hereby assessed, imposed and levied on every insurance company, corporation or other insurer now engaging in or carrying on, or which shall hereafter engage in or carryon the business of insuring against loss or damage by fire or tornado, as shown by the records of the Insurance Commissioners of the State of Florida, an excise or license tax in addition to any license tax or excise tax now levied by the City of Clermont, which said tax shall be in the amount of one point eight five percent (1.85%) of the gross amount of receipts of premiums from policyholders on all premiums collected on fire and tornado insurance policies covering property within the corporate limits of the City of Clermont. SECTION 2. Section 16-41. Policemen's retirement - Insurance premiums tax shall be amended to read as follows: There is hereby assessed, imposed and levied on every insurance company, corporation or other insurer now engaging in or carrying on, or which shall hereafter engage in or carryon the business of insuring with respect to casualty risks, as shown by the records of the Insurance Commissioners of the State of Florida, an excise or license tax in addition to any license tax or excise tax now levied by the City of Clermont, which said tax shall be in the amount of point eight five percent (.85%) of the gross amount of receipts of premiums from policyholders on all premiums col- lected on casualty insurance policies, covering property within the corporate limits of the City of Clermont. SECTION 3. Should any section or part of this section be declared invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, such adjudications shall not apply to or affect any other provision of this Ordinance, except to the extent that the entire section or part of the section may be inseparable in meaning and effect from the section to which such holding shall apply. . .
