'Whereas, Tyson Gay is a triple world champion sprinter, an American record-holder, and the
second fastest man in history; and
'Whereas, he has represented the United States of America in the 2008, 2012, and 2016
Olympics, and was a member of the 2016 Olympic Men's 4x100 Relay Team; and
'Whereas, he is the fastest man in American history, with a time of 9.69 in the 100-meter at
the 2009 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix; and
'Whereas, he went on to become the first athlete in the University of Arkansas history to win
the NCAA 100-meter title; and
'Whereas, at the 2007 World Championships, he became only the second man in history to
win titles at the 100-meter, 200-meter, and the 4x100 relay; and
Whereas, in 2008 Tyson Gay ran the second fastest time in the world of the year when he
won the Olympic Trials 100-meter in 9.77 seconds; and
Whereas, he is the fifth fastest man ever in the 200-meter; and
Whereas, Tyson Gay's 100-meter performance at the 2007 Outdoor Championships is the
second-fastest ever run into a headwind; and
Whereas, his successful high school career included an unbroken 10.46 state-meet record in
2001 and was named the 2004 Mideast Regional Athlete of the Year;
Now, Therefore, I, Gail L. Ash, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida, do
hereby present Tyson Gay with one of the first Champion Keys to the City.
