RESOLUTION No. 2016-26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT
FOR THE PLANNED EAST AVENUE MULTI-MODEL AND SAFETY
PROJECT; AND PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR INCLUSION WITHIN THE
LAKE—SUMTER METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
(MPO) PROJECT PRIORITIZATION LIST.
WHEREAS, transportation is vital to Clermont's health, safety and welfare; and
adequate and properly managed transportation corridors are essential to our economy and quality
of life; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to seek additional improvements to enhance the
effectiveness of regional transportation systems consistent with the City and County adopted
Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation has requested a Resolution from
the City of Clermont in support of the East Avenue project and include said corridor within the
prioritization list of the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO); and
WHEREAS, the City of Clermont supports the East Avenue project corridor (Exhibit
"A") as planned roadway improvements with the City of Clermont that will benefit the City and
two schools, being Cypress Ridge Elementary School and Clermont Middle School; and
WHEREAS, the East Avenue project corridor will enhance trip distribution, associated
capacity improvements, and includes safety improvements as identified 'by the MPO's Safe
Schools Access Transportation Study; therefore:
NOW, THEREFORE," BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Clermont, Florida, as follows:
SECTION 1.
The recitals set forth above are hereby adopted as findings of the City Council of the City of
Clermont.
SECTION 2.
The City of Clermont hereby expresses its full support of the East Avenue project within the City
of Clermont; and includes the planned improvements within the MPO prioritization list.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
