RESOLUTION N0. 206
q Resolution of the City Council of the City of Clermont, Lake
County, Florida, requesting that the State of Florida, Department
of Transportation, reroute State Road 561 from its present location
through the residential and downtown sections of the City of
Minneola, Florida, and the City of Clermont, Florida, to a new
location by rerouting said State Road 561 along U.S. Highway 27 to
the intersection of State Road 50 thence along State Road 50 to
the present intersection of said State Road 561 and State Road 50
WHEREAS, a portion of State Road 561 presently commences at the North City
limits of the City of Minneola, Florida, and meanders through business and residential
sections of the City of Minneola, Florida, and the City of Clermont, Florida, before
leaving the South City Limits of the City of Clermont; and
WHEREAS, on its present meandering route through the residential and
business districts of the said City of Minneola and the said City of Clermont that
said portion of State Road 561 is routed past churches, public parks, recreational
facilities, residential homes, a public beach, city hall, a post office, businesses
and other places where traffic congests and children play; and
WHEREAS, vehicular traffic, more particularly large truck and transport
traffic, has substantially increased in recent years on State Road 561 due to increases
in population an newly established manufacturing and mining concerns; and
WHEREAS, said increase in motor vehicular traffic along the present route
of State Road 561 through the business and residential sections of the City of Minneola
and the City of Clermont has endangered the lives and property of the citizens and
their children living in said cities; and
WHEREAS, there presently exists a route from U. S. Highway 27 to the
intersection of State Road 50, thence along State Road 50 to the present intersection
of State Road 561 and State Road 50, that is better suited as a route for State Road 561
in that such a proposed new route obviates the dangers heretofore mentioned; therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY,
FLORIDA, THAT:
The State of Florida, Department of Transportation, is hereby requested by
the City of Clermont to reroute State Road 561 from its present location through the
residential and downtown sections of the city of Minneola, Fd~orida, and the City of
Clermont, Florida, to a new location by rerouting said State Road 561 along U. S.
Highway 27 to the intersection of State Road 50, thence along State Road 50 to the
present intersection of the said State Road 561 and the said State Road 50.
