RESOLUTIONS
No. 619
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT,
LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING REVISION OF THE FLORIDA
SUNSHINE LAW TO EXTEND TO THE ACTIONS OF THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the City of Clermont, Florida, a local government,
operates under the Florida Sunshine Law, a historic legislative act
which opens the entire process of public decision making to the
participation and information of the citizens, and
WHEREAS, in enacting the Sunshine Law, the Florida Legislature
included an exemption under which the terms of the law do not apply
to the conduct of public business within the State Legislature, and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for this law to apply
equally to State Government as to Local Government,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Clermont, Florida, that the City expresses to the members of the
Lake County Delegation: the Honorable Richard H. LangJ.ey, the
Honorable Stan Bainter, and the Honorable Everett A. ~elly, its
desire that they support the extension of the Sunshine Law to the
actions of the Florida Legislature, and
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Clermont, Florida, calls on each member of the Lake County
Legislative Delegation to state a position on the extension of the
Sunshine Law to the actions of the Florida Legislature, and
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be
delivered to each member of the Delegation, and to the members of
the Board of County Commissioners, and to each of Lake County's
municipal governments, with encouragement to join in supporting
this immediate reform.
