RESOLUTIONS
No. 580
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE RAILS TO TRAILS PROGRAM AND
RECOMMENDING THAT THE WINTER GARDEN TO MASCOTTE SEGMENT BE
PLACED NUMBER TWO ON THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES PRIORITY
LIST FOR ACQUISITION.
WHEREAS, the State of Florida has established the Florida
Recreational Trails System to encourage the development of
regional recreational trails for bicycling, hiking, horseback
riding and canoeing, and
WHEREAS, the Lake Rails to Trails Program is a citizen organi-
zation brought together by a common goal: the creation of a
network of quiet trails in Lake County, and
WHEREAS, the Lake Rails to Trails Program advocates the
preservation of abandoned railroad corridors as linear parks, and
WHEREAS, the list of planned acquisition of railroad corridors
has been published by the Department of Natural Resources and the
twenty-one mile right-of-way from Winter Garden to Mascotte is now
number four on the list, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Clermont supports the
concept of the Rails to Trails Program and is desirous of insuring
that the Winter Garden to Mascotte corridor receives the attention
it deserves,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City
of Clermont, Lake County, Florida, that the Council supports the
establishment of the Florida Recreational Trails system and the Lake
Rails to Trails organization and their endeavors, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Clermont, Lake County, Florida, recommends and requests that the
Winter Garden to Mascotte corridor be placed as number two on the
Department of Natural Resources priority list.
