R-86-533 e e CITY OF CLERMONT RESOLUTIONS No. 533 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ENCOURAGING LAKE COUNTY TO BE MORE RESTRICTIVE IN PERMITTING OF SAND AND CLAY MINING OR EXCAVATION; ENCOURAGING LAKE COUNTY TO REQUIRE MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION AS TO THE ULTIMATE USE OF THE PROPERTY; ENCOURAGING LAKE COUNTY TO MAINTAIN THE CITY OF CLERMONT'S CHARACTERIZATION AS "GEM OF THE HILLS". WHEREAS, the rolling hills of Lake County are a most valued natural resource; and WHEREAS, the hilly terrain of Lake County is peculiar to this area and unique in Florida; and WHEREAS, the distinctive hills attract many residents and visitors to the area; and WHEREAS, the City of Clermont is characterized as the "Gem of the Hills"; and WHEREAS, the unnecessary leveling of the hills is detrimental to the appearance and character of the area; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Clermont, Lake County, Florida, that Lake County be encouraged to be more restrictive in permitting of sand and clay mines; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Lake County be encouraged to re- quire more specific information as to the ultimate use of property to be excavated; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that additional notice of such proposed development plans and mining or excavation projects shall be given; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Lake County be encouraged to main- tain the the City of Clermont's characterization as "Gem of the Hills;" and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Lake County Board of County Commissioners should do all that is within their power to promote orderly, planned growth and in doing so, preserve the beauty of Lake County, which they serve.
