Whereas, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Clermont Post 5277 was first chartered 75 years
ago in 1946; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 will celebrates its 751 Anniversary in 2021; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 is named in memory of William Alfred Suggs, who died on
December 7, 1941 aboard the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor and is
entombed in the USS Arizona, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and
Vhereas, the VFW Post 5277 is honored to still have several World War II Veterans serving in its
membership; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 continues to serve our country by supporting the troops who are
defending our freedom and remembers their fallen comrades at funerals and patriotic
holidays; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 assists veterans in obtaining their benefits and supports veterans
administration hospitals by donating medical equipment and other necessities; and
Vhereas, the VFW Post 5277 has been continuously recognized and awarded for its dedicated
service to the community by being named an "All -American Team Post" since 2017 and
by being awarded the VFW National Community Service Award; and
No,w, therefore, I, Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida, do
hereby proclaim and recognize the 241h Day of January, Two Thousand and Twenty One to be in
honor of the:
