Whereas, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Clermont Post 5277 was first chartered 75 years
ago in 1946 in the building located at 855 W. Desoto Street; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 is named in memory of William Alfred Suggs, who died on
December 7, 1941 aboard the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor and is
entombed in the USS Arizona, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 continues to serve the country by supporting the troops who are
defending freedom and by remembering the fallen soldiers at funerals and patriotic
holidays; and
Whereas, the VFW Post 5277 assists veterans in obtaining their benefits and supports veterans
administration hospitals by donating medical equipment and other necessities; and
WhereaS, the VFW Post 5277 has been continuously recognized and awarded for its dedicated
service to the community by being named an "All -American Team Post" since 2017 and
by being awarded the VFW National Community Service Award; and
Whereas, the historic legacy of VFW Post 5277 and its building have been officially recognized
by the United States Department of the Interior and registered on the National Historic
Registry;
Wow, Therefore, I, Tim Murry, Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida, do
hereby proclaim and recognize the 20 Day of October, Two Thousand and Twenty One to be in
honor of the:

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
