R-97-959• • • CITY OF CLERMONT RESOLUTION No. 959 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLERMONT, LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, CALLING A REFERENDUM ON THE QUESTION OF WHETHER THE CITY OF CLERMONT SHOULD BE PERMITTED THE OPTION TO OFFER ECONOMIC AD VALOREM TAX EXEMPTIONS UNDER §196.1995, FLORIDA STATUTE; SPECIFYING THE FORM OF THE BALLOT QUESTION ON SUCH REFERENDUM; REQUESTING THE SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS TO PLACE THE BALLOT QUESTION ON THE BALLOT FOR THE NOVEMBER 4, 1997 GENERAL ELECTION AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, §196.1995, FLORIDA STATUTE allows the governing body of a • municipality, by affirmative vote, to place on the ballot a referendum question asking whether the municipality should be permitted the option to grant property tax exemptions to new businesses and expansions of existing businesses, for the purpose of encouraging economic development; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Clermont to provide such exemptions to eligible new businesses and eligible expansions of existing businesses, if such authority is approved by an affirmative vote of the electorate; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Clermont hereby votes to hold a referendum asking the voters to allow the authority to grant property tax exemptions to new businesses and expansions of existing businesses, for the purpose of encouraging economic development, and requests that the Lake County Supervisor of Elections place the following question on the ballot for all voters within the corporate limits of the City of Clermont, in the November 4, 1997 general election: Shall the Ciry Council of the City of Clermont be given the option to grant temporary property tax exemptions to new businesses and expansions of existing businesses pursuant to Art. VII, §3 of the State Constitution and Section 196.1995 of Florida Statutes? • YES -For authority to grant exemptions NO -Against authority to grant exemptons • • • CITY OF CLERMONT RESOLUTION No. 959 Page 2 THIS RESOLUTION shall take effect upon its passage and adoption in the manner provided by law.
