Mayor's Proclamation
WHEREAS, the order to establish the first Purple Heart was issued by General
George Washington during the Revolutionary War; and
WI3EREAS, the military Order of the Purple Heart was founded by George
Washington in 1782, serving as a reminder to our nation and to the world that these
patriots shed their blood for their country, fighting to defend our country's freedom;
and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the birthday of its founder, the month of
February has traditionally been the time designated to recognize and honor this group
of veterans who have sustained a wound inflicted by an enemy in combat.
NOW, THEREFORE, I Robert A. Pool, by virtue of the authority vested in
me as Mayor, and on behalf of the entire City Council and all of the citizens of
Clermont, do hereby proclaim the month of February, 1993 as that time to salute the
Military Order of the Purple Heart, and hereby urge the citizens of this community to
recognize, support, and applaud the members of this distinguished organization who
have risked their lives in defense of the freedoms that are enjoyed in our country
today.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
of the City of Clermont to be affixed this 8th day of January, in the year of our Lord
nineteen hundred and ninety-three.
