MAYORAL PROCLAMATION
CLERMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
DIAMOND JUBILEE
75TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, in 1915 the need for a larger school building was
caused by the merger of the Clermont and Minneola School Districts,
and
WHEREAS, a site was given by E.S. Wiley on Second Street for
construction of the school, and
WHEREAS, a $10, 000 bond issue was approved and a two story red
brick building was constructed containing four classrooms, a
library, principal's office and coatrooms, and
WHEREAS, the building was dedicated on December 17, 1915 and
when opened in September of 1916 had an enrollment of over 100,
and
WHEREAS, a second building was constructed on the site in
1924 in the then popular old Spanish Mission design at a cost,
including furnishings, of $50, 000, and
WHEREAS, together these buildings have served three
generations of Clermont residents as High School and now Elementary
School, and
WHEREAS, these structures have caused an unquestioned impact
upon and made a vital contribution to the City by providing
outstanding education for our young people these many years.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert A. Pool, Mayor of the City of
Clermont in recognition of the 75th Anniversary of the Clermont
Elementary School do hereby proclaim May 10, 1990 as Clermont
Elementary School Day in our community and further provide that a
copy of this tribute be presented to the Faculty and Staff of the
school in testimony of the high regard in which the school is held
in our City.
