MAYORAL PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in over forty years the Florida Water and Pollution
ontrol Operators Association has grown from a very few to 2,886
members; and
WHEREAS, these men and women are dedicated, knowledgeable, and
highly trained personnel who work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays
to protect our natural resource, your heritage and your future
water supply, and are often paid less than your garbage collector
in a vocation frequently misunderstood by the citizens they protect;
and
WHEREAS, it takes many hours of schooling, hands-on training,
and much study to enable a student to pass the State Certification
Examination; and
WHEREAS, each year the State Board of Directors of the Florida
Water and Pollution Control Operators Association sponsor a seminar
at the Gainesville TREEO Center for advanced training, to facilitate
the taking and passing of the State Exam for the Water or Waste Water
Plant in which the trainees are employed. Each plant is governed by
its size as to the qualifications for the personnel needed to man it.
State Certification is required before an employee can become Lead
operator and supervise the trainee; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Environmental Regulation receives a
report each month from every Water and Waste Water Plant with lab
results, quantity of flow and other pertinent facts; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators
Association has worked with the Department of Environmental Regulation
and the State Legislature to enact Florida Statutes 17-16, 17-19, and
17-22 for the safety and health of all citizens of Florida;
NOW THEREFORE, I Robert A. Pool, Mayor of the City of Clermont,
hereby proclaim August 25 - August 31, 1985 as:
FLORIDA WATER AND POLLUTION CONTROL OPERATORS WEEK
in the City of Clermont, in tribute to the many men and women who have
your health and welfare in mind, every working hour, day and night.
