40th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor DayPROCLAMATION
PEARL HARBOR DAY - FORTY YEARS LATER
WHEREAS: On Sunday, December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Naval
Air Arm struck a surprise, devastating blow to the United States Military
installation at or near Pearl Harbor, Hawaii;
WHEREAS: As a direct result of this infamous act, the United States
entered World War II;
WHEREAS: Nearly 25 million men and women have served in our Nation's
Armed Forces during times of armed conflict since that first Pearl Harbor Day;
WHEREAS: Many of these persons who were caZZed upon in the defense of
our Nation Zost their lives, their health, their minds or were grievously injured
by wounds or other acts, were held as prisoners of war by our enemies, or suffered
serious illnesses, aZZ in the Zine of duty;
WHEREAS: Those veterans who suffered such adversities as described
above are now classified as Disabled American Veterans by our National Government;
WHEREAS: Monday, December 7, 1981, will be the 40th Anniversary of that
infamous, sneak attack upon the United States, commonly caZZed Pearl Harbor Day;
AND
WHEREAS: Many veterans of our Armed Forces reside in or near this
community;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That Sunday, December 7, 1941, be particularly
remembered in honor of aZZ persons who served in our Nation's Armed Forces and
espeeiaZZy those who died, were prisoners of war, or received disabilities in the
line of duty in the defense of our Nation during a time of armed conflict, and
that those veterans classified as Disabled American Veterans by our National
government be espeeiaZZy appreciated by the City of Clermont on this 40th Anniver-
sary of Pearl Harbor Day.
