National Family Literacy DayCity of Clermont
1ljhereas, as many as 44 million adults in this country cannot read a level necessary to
succeed in today's society; and
~hereaS, families, neighbors and volunteers in these United States must unite in promoting
literacy and help those with significant literacy needs learn to read and gain independence by becoming
literate; and
1~V~iereas, when individuals learn to read they enable themselves and their families to gain
self respect and confidence, and to reach life goals; and
`1~Vhereas, the tireless efforts of the DAR members of the Tomoka Chapter National
Society Daughters of the American Revolution are contributing to the success of literacy programs; and
1Nhereas, the task will not be completed until all who have significant literacy needs are
given opportunity to learn to read the literacy challenge must be promoted and to do this we observe
National Family Literacy Day November I, 2007.

Mayor of the City of Clermont in the State of Florida do hereby proclaim the day of November I, 2007
as

and encourage our citizens to help promote literacy by volunteering to help those with the desire and need
to Learn to read.
