WHEREAS, prior to 1947 the City of Clermont did not have a hospital. The
Clermont Welfare League, an organization of young women in Clermont, recognized
the most critical need for our community was for a hospital to serve area residents.
Accordingly, they began to raise money, acquire property and create a Hospital
Board, and in April of 1947, South Lake Memorial Hospital was opened with nine
beds, and
WHEREAS, we gratefully acknowledge 50 years of steadfast service to our
community. From the beginning South Lake Hospital has maintained a dedicated staff
of physicians, employees, and volunteers that have provided the highest quality of
healthcare to their patients, and
WHEREAS, 50 years later, South Lake Hospital, a 68-bed acute care facility,
entered into a joint partnership with Orlando Regional Healthcare System and is
• building a new healthcare campus that will be designed to take us into the 21st
century;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Robert A. Pool, as Mayor
of the City of Clermont, do hereby proclaim that it is appropriate that, as we begin
construction on the new South Lake Hospital campus, we celebrate 50 years of
continuous service to the residents of South Lake County.
IN WITNESS WIiEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
of the City of Clermont to be affixed at Clermont this 3rd day of January, 1997.
